Wikipedia (If it's correct.) - A video card, also referred to as a graphics accelerator card, display adapter, graphics card, and numerous other terms, is an item of personal computer hardware whose function is to generate and output images to a display. It operates on similar principles as a sound card or other peripheral devices.

Meaning, yes, you need a graphics card to see things on your monitor.

You need a graphic chip would be more appropiate, the first ones didn't had a 'graphic card'.

First game that I remember playing was the first Counter-Strike.
(But we had a comp way before that, since my parents were both programmers and that's how they met. )

And as with all modern game, you need to at least double that if you want to be able to play the game smoothly, and almost triple it if you want to play with all graphic options turned on...

Also, as it been said previously, integrated graphic cards are not meant for gaming. It's meant for a normal PC desktop use, meaning business applications. Like Word, Excel, etc...

just to be argumentative , a MODERN intergrated graphics like geforce 6200 or higher can more than easily run this and it uses main computer memory to make ( i think ) 128 MB graphics

You can -(and, of course, may)- argue all that you want, jg007, integrated graphics are ALWAYS less when compared to an uptodate graphical card.
In fact even a modern integrated one is minor compared to many older(?) graphical cards.
And fact is: shared mem sucks.

the chip is never standalone itself, it always comes along with it's own translator for instructions set for normal assembler, so it's always some kind of set of stuffies on a bus, call it graphic adapter or graphic card or GPU (let it be geeforce 4 or your motherboard), otherwise it wouldn't be able to communicate with other hardware
[/nit lame]

btw yeah shared mem sucks, i can tell
