![]() Awesome game! I'm still learning the ropes, though.
Any trading tips? I can see a bunch of trade goods for sale at most towns, but I don't have enough money to experiment and look for optimal trade routes. My mediocre income has been coming from a couple of lignite mines I managed to exploit with my 20 slaves and 4 mammoths. Anthracite's slowly running out (just below 300 now, nothing too serious), and the last 3 mines discovered were lignite ones (I could only get 47 baks from the last anthracite one, as I didn't have any slaves and just one mammoth back then). Also, how do I alter the position of the train's wagons? I haven't bought the Drill yet, but I know it has to be either on the very front or very back of the train. New wagons are placed at the back, and if I want more after purchasing the Drill, I don't want them taking up the rearmost spot. And besides, wagon position will be important once I get cannon and MG wagons. Finally, I'm playing at level 1, which I'm already feeling might be too easy. I only had two war-train encounters in quite a bit of travelling. I escaped from one and lost the other battle only because I was stupid. The other train was short, only had a handful of soldiers and a single machine gun. After placing a bomb on that wagon, I sent my men right into the line of fire, and since they were my last, I lost. I've had no mole men encounters either, even though I ran through a long underground passage. Which difficulty level would you recommend? And is it possible to change it mid-game or do I've to restart? |

![]() Trading tips? Get a note-pad, write the prices down. YOu cand buy a product foar a certain price/quantity in one town and sell it more expensive in another. That's one way to make money , another would be coalmines, and the other - the enemy trains. The combat modes is somewhat... I dunno... not as good as it could be. With long trains you cand loose track of things, and by the time you're done dealing with mamoths/soldier at one end of the train, they're done with yours (and your trucks,carts,soldiers/whatever) at the other. A better equipped enemy train could quite easily kick your butt. Mole men do show up quite often even on lvl 1 dificulty - just a matter of odds.
Played this game a while back (on a different computer). STILL haven't solved my problem though. DOESNT ANYONE know what it could be?? Come on, please!! (BTW: "METAL MUTANT" wich is also made by silmarils has exactly the same problem. Works without dosbox - but moves so slow it's almost standing still - intro and everything works fine WITH dosbox - but you have to insert the goddamn disk A in the drive. What the hell sort of disk are they talking about?) Last edited by navarro; 06-05-2008 at 09:55 AM. |

![]() I mounted the image/folder with "the folder where I have the game istalled", as "drive" with the drive letter "D" (the drive where my arctic baron folder is). Ang gave it the name (tag) "DISK A". Amazingly (or not) - it works verry fine now!
WORD 2 LINE 2 Page 5 ? Anyone? Doesn't appear to be in the copy-protection answers table. It's "STAYED". 'just found out. Edit: When the abandonia version didn't work I got one the game via messenger from a friend... I was playinh THAT one. That's why the word wasn't there probably. ![]() I realized you can alter the order of your train's wagons in those little depots you find every now and then. You can also repair or destroy wagons there. You can't sell them, as far as I know.
For me, now it's a matter of continuing the game and perhaps delve deeper into the sweet story. Let's hope a nice lignite mine shows up so I can get a couple of MG wagons and more soldiers, of course! EDIT: I'm experiencing a rather annoying bug: sometimes after a successful train battle, my lignite is replaced by the amount of lignite I supposedly looted from the defeated train. It's worrying and perhaps game-breaking, since it's not funny to lose 3500 and end up with 900. I checked, and none of the tenders were destroyed during the battle. There is, however, a destroyed tender (it was blasted a while ago) I couldn't scrap at the train station, for some reason (impossible to destroy). ![]() I've got one that's even "better". I get a message that says: "erreur: create":mad::mad: when I try to save a game playing the abandonia version. OF COURSE, the game crashes. BTW: I also have a copy of an original CD version. That one works just fine after dealing with the dosbox mounting problems. It's just that I don't have the manual to get/know the copy protection answers.
Here's another REALLY f*d up bug!! I reload a game I saved earlier and discover it's from another older saving point. Wich means I have to restart walking a long way that I had already walked. . This is really... hmmmf. All this considered, Maybe ye admins would be intrested in full scan of an original english manual and CD version as well? A buddy o' mine owns these but, I suppose I could go to a bit of trouble to borrow them - wouldn't be too much I suppose/hope... PS: If somehow what I've just said breaks any of the board rules just edit/delete the post. But since this game is up here for download, I don't know if that would be a problem. ![]() The Abandonia version seems to be slightly buggier than the Home of the Underdogs one (Arctic Baron: same game, different name). I experienced the same lignite bug, though, as well as occasional crashes after checking your train's inventory.
The other advantage the HOTU version has is that the game's straight English (you don't need to go through the language selection screen), and I'm fairly certain it's cracked. Whenever you're asked to type in the correct word from the manual, input AS. Seems to have worked so far. The version we've here still has the copy-protection, which is annoying and can potentially wreck your gaming experience, since I think bugs might start showing up after you input the wrong password. The game doesn't tell you you were wrong, so in the end you don't know if the bugs are part of the game itself or just something you triggered due to a mistake. |
