![]() On clouds side rangers and druids can buy "Lloyd's Beacon" where archers and sorcerers can buy it (shangri-la and another town (rivercity ?), on dark side they can only buy it at olympus, not in castleview like the sorc/arc.

A few more tips: Don't use the last charge of the most powerful spell-using items you've found, until you get the Recharge Item spell. Then have your sorcerer charge those items up, and keep them charged. If you're looking for an item that casts a specific spell--say, Town Portal, or Day of Protection, or Lloyd's Beacon--then it might pay to hang around a few days in the most dangerous city that you've thoroughly explored. Check the smithy every day after 5 AM, when a new group of these items will be offered to the public. Save before you prospect in the caverns of the Darkside. The chance that you'll blow up and heavily damage your party isn't based on your thief's luck, but random. There's also a chance that you'll turn up 3 precious rocks instead of just 1. Don't bother with temple blessings once your cleric gets Day of Protection. He/she will be able to cast a blessing at a higher level using that spell, plus it also includes such other benefits as protection from all elements. Speaking of which, learn to cast the two Day spells (one each for the cleric and sorcerer) each day, before you hit the road, after you've used any fountain that gives your party a temporary level boost. Although you want to concentrate the might and accuracy upgrades on your tanks, it still wouldn't hurt along the way to pick up precious stone weapons usable by your druid, cleric, and sorcerer. Their help in melee can prove useful if spell power is low, or you're in a zone where spell power is leeched. Cover every bit of land. You can never tell what may show up unseen, underground, or what previously unseen monster you come across that yields experience and goods. |

![]() Hi. For what it's worth . . ..
Got the game, ran it in DosBox, works okay...except whenever I entered an establishment, like the Blacksmith, it would freeze up when I tried to exit.... If anyone else has/had this problem, just turn off the sound effects before entering and and it won't freeze.... RogerWilco and out |

![]() Did you configure the game's sound setup to use the correct IRQ? That's the most frequent cause of games crashing in DOSBox during an attempt to play a digitized sound effect.

![]() Good point, but the sound - like "Whadda *you* want - does play okay. And you can brouse, buy, etc. It's just that when you go to exit it hangs up. I'll check out the IRQ, though . . .. thanks

![]() That does seem like a sound/IRQ problem, as The Fifth Horseman said, related to music swapping when you leave a merchant screen. Try running setup for the game, and select no music for that option. If there's no freeze when you leave the blacksmith this time, you'll know it's just a matter of finding the right IRQ setting and card choice. I recommend one of the Soundblaster selections.

![]() Using Adlib instead of Soundblaster works also quite well, it's interesting how different it sounds.

![]() okay, Kmonster, if you could let me know how to change it to Adlib, I'd appreciate it. Unless i'm blind - Close, but not there yet - I don't see any options in the game, nor a standalone that'll change the sound cards, etc.
If you're talking about in DOSBOX, I'm using a front end from Loonies software that's simple and it works, but there's no paramaters that can be included. So if it *is* in DosBox, could you include the commands in a BAT file that DosBox would accept? Hope that makes sense Thanks for your help rogerwilco and out |
