![]() What you think about giving some detailed info?
It's kinda hard to help you when all we know is: *This is where the whole thing grinds to a halt.* Maybe you would better use dosbox from the prompt instead of using D-Fend. Tutorials enough how to work with the dosboxprompt around. BTW, what's your OS? Dosbox version? [Echo] [/Echo]

![]() Thanks again for replying.
"This is where the whole thing grinds to a halt" - screen goes blank, comes back on having reverted back to windows. Even if I use DosBox alone do I install the game directly off the floppies and run it using DosBox ot install it using DosBox? I have version 0.72 of DosBox. I'm sure there are loads of tutorials but you are in contact with someone who has awful memories of trying to load DOS games on underpowered systems running Windows 95. I go into a cold sweat at the mention of "configsys", "ini", "free memory" and other such terms, having spent an inordinate amount of time in the past, watching the "C" prompt winking malevolently at me from a blank screen whilst pulling out my hair in desperation - hence trying to use D-Fend! Despite the above misgivings I will keep on trying. Again, many thanks for your assistance. |

You don't need D-Fend, it only complicates things. Simply said the basics: Create a folder, let's say c:\users\your name\oldgames, double click on dosboxconfig , scroll down and add under header [AUTOEXEC] this: [AUTOEXEC] mount c "c:\users\your name\oldgames" c: Run dosbox and you'll see it starts up with c: prompt ready, wasn't that hard isn't it? Unarchive all the games from AB you want to run in c:\users\your name\oldgames\folder\ Most are ready to run in dosbox. Run dosbox and input: cd folder something usually game name related, or start or run, something. For your DM2 installation: To mount your floppy drive and for install: mount a a:\ -t floppy a: install Path IN dosbox: c:\dm2\ Soundconfig for dm2, if needed, run setup when you're in your DM2 folder IN dosbox: Digital: soundblaster P220 DMA1 IRQ7 MIDI: soundblaster port388 'save config' To run DM2 it's simply dm2 BTW, I suppose here you're on XP, you still didn't said what your OS is .... *sigh* [EDIT]Whoops, saw in youir first post you're on Vista. Adapted the mount/folder lines so it will work in Vista. BTW, D-Fend can't work good in Vista, you'll need D-Fend reloaded or DBGL in Vista if you absolutely want to use a frontend. Vista is too self protective, and the ol'D-Fend is only pre-Vista.

![]() Blimey that was a quick reply - thanks.
It is D-Fend reloaded that I have - I should give more clues! I will now give DM2 a go in DosBox. Your efforts very much appreciated. |

![]() Well, it's some hours later and I've managed to create a folder - then it gets tricky - you say "double click on dosboxconfig, scroll down and add under header [AUTOEXEC] this:"
Now if I could find a command approximating to "dosboxconfig" I would be happy to double click it because then I might be able to scroll down to find a header [AUTOEXEC] and do the mount command. I can, however, open DosBox and do the mount command but the c: prompt won't stay put - it reverts to z: when you attempt to do anything. Lord help me if I try to mount the a drive as well! I appear to be missing the point by a country mile. I have a headache and my blood pressure has rocketed to epic levels - I will stop now. |

![]() If you don't see the shortcut to dosbox config file in your dosbox start menu items go to your dosbox folder.
![]() If you mount the virtual C: manually, after mounting it you must input c: To switch from Z: to C: prompt. After mounting your floppy drive as 'A' input a: to switch to your A: drive. You'll get there, don't stress, you'll get there as zillions before you. Maybe it will take a bit more time then I thought, but you will get there.

Apart from exceptional cases, you need to know just four commands in total, everything else can be looked up in the readme when (if) you need it (just IMGMOUNT and BOOT for the most part). Three of these are DOS commands used for changing current drive, moving in the directory structure (CD/CHDIR) and listing contents of current directory (DIR). The fourth is MOUNT.
