Rename the game directory to Settlers . Make a new directory on your C drive, name it Dosgames . Move the Settlers directory into it.

In DOSBOX, enter the following commands:
mount C C:\DOSGAMES -freesize 100
C:
cd settlers
settlers

Try copying the entire game directory from your office PC.

I'm pretty sure the problem is not with DOSBox. :amused:

Default Sound Help Please :-)

I am having problems to get the sound to work on this game.

I don't really know what I am doing, but what I have tried was to run the sound.bat file and set it up with a few different configurations, none have worked.

I am running a laptop with Windows Vista (yup). The sound controller is listed as "Conexant High Definition Audio" in the Device Manager.

Oh, and I am using the latest version of DOSBox to run the game with.

Thanks for the help!

Oh, and if I run the sound.bat thing and use the default setup given which is:

Sound Blaster Pro I
Address 0x200
IRQ 5
DMA 1

It says the install worked, but when I type the command to run settlers in DOSBox (serfcity), my speakers make a small clicking sound and I get the message "PCM sound hardware not found."

That is about it I think. I am new to this so have patience :-)

Thanks!

Run soundbat again and alter to

A 220
IRQ 7
DMA 1

Those are the default settings in dosbox.

BTW, there is no "sound.bat" in the AB game archive, do you have the full game?

The command is not serfcity but settlers
There is no 'serfcity' in the AB game.

Nope, also ripped, and seriously ripped, as it's only 917 Kb.
My advise: delete it and get the one from Ab@
http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/288
unzip in a folder, call it settlers or so, mount that folder as C in dosbox, you won't have to set the sound or anything as the game is pre-configured for dosbox, in other words: ready to run.

And in the future ask help for a game WHERE you got it from. You hardly can expect help here for the whole abandonware sector.

[Edit]
Ahem, BTW, When you run sound.bat in that other download, choose SB pro, next screen Soundblaster 16, A220 IRQ7 DMA1, next click on 'use only one card' NOT two, done, game will work with music and sound effects.
Seems to be the full version afterall......

Hey, it was just a mistake, the URLs were similar and I had too many windows open and wasn't paying enough attention.

Anyway, thanks for the help, I noticed that right before you posted and the version here works great.

One more thing though, what exactly does SVGA mode do?
Oh, and I am having problems running in full screen mode, I set it to full screen in the DOSBox configuration file, but when I play the game the colors are all messed up. I think it only does that when I set it on SVGA mode...

Thanks!

Don't go in full screen? 'doh.

Or try different output settings under [SDL] in dosboxconfig.

Default Settlers and Netbook

I've played Settlers on and off since 1996, except recently under Vista (which has no time for Dos apps). But I recently bought a Netbook, which runs under XP. Settlers runs perfectly on it, with full fx, tho' no music. It's perfect for long journeys.
