Yeah I recently imported an entire list of the msot frequent ads into Adblock... I haven't seen a single ad for the time being.
I also use a Tab-plugin to get more advanced tab options (because to say tabbed browsing comes with firefox isn't exactly true since you need to press on ctrl before clicking on a link all the time to make it open in a new tab instead of a new cindow which is quite annoying)

If you have a middle button/scroll wheel you can click that on a link and it will open a new tab. You can also drag links on to the tab you want them to open in!
