![]() The suggestion for a Virtual PC is very handy! I installed my old copy of Windows 98 using Parallels which, if you have the money for it, is a very nice way to go. I think Parallels is available for PC, although I use it for Mac.
Mac users also might try Crossover to run old PC games, but generally my success with Crossover has been very limited. |

![]() As in, would Microsoft mind if we distributed it for free? I would think so myself. Not even DOS can be distributed with their consent as far as I know.

![]() Unfortunately so.
Of course, that doesn't mean they're particularly effective at shutting down places that have it... |

![]() What would be the point, even if they should manage to shut all of them, there'll always be P2P.
I think something like MS-DOS Shell (standalone of course, without being bundled in a whole DOS distribution) would be OK. As in: MS wouldn't give a damn. Though its use would be hardly more than nostalgic. I actually uploaded it to a Spanish AW site. Here we have Norton Commander for download, which belongs to Symantec all right. About old Windows versions and even DOS, IIRC Microsoft has actually stated explicitly that they are not OK with their distribution. Even if they don't prosecute it at all, which is true.

At least I have windows 98 on my craptastic processing unit that doesn't read USB devices but runs Descent smoothly! All I gotta do now is burn Pandemonium to a CD to load it up in that computer[that doesn't have internet]...and I gotta get around to installing my Dragon's Lair CD pack, "including Dragon's Lair 1, Dragon's Lair 2, and Space Ace!" |
