As promised, I am playing around with the uploadable version of C2, here at Abandonia. So far, I could build a thriving village within the first year and re-aquainted myself with all the games features and functions.

Still haven't tried the battle mode yet, but more coming soon...

The game does seem to work, if you install it to C drive, in a new folder named 'Ceasar2'. Drag the Batch file into DosBox desktop icon(image below)

UPDATE: Have went on to create a successful province. Also, remembering how much more versatile C2's provincial design was, as compared to C3. Ceasar 3 put the details into the single city mode. Never have tried C4 from Tilted Mill. Although, I am a registered member of Tilted Mills forums and used to be quite active there.

Mish mosh, with no rhyme or reason, plus looming debt, image:

Can't get the sound FX or music to work, no matter what configuration I try (from the setmusic.exe, or whatever it was named, writing this from work, cannot check it). Reading this thread, I notice others have the same problem too, but I haven't seen a good solution to it yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Forgot to add, that I downloaded Caesar II from here (d'oh) and that I'm running it through DOSbox (v0.72), if that's relevant. (Yes, I know v0.73 is out, haven't upgraded yet. Will do soon.)

Sorry for the double post, but I cannot seem to be able to edit my posts for some reason. Why?

select creative labs sound blaster or 100% compatible and attempt auto config for both music and sound

I'm pretty sure I tried that already. I tried all the SoundBlaster options and each time the auto-config said it succeeded, but still there was no sound in the game. I'll check this once I get home.

Have you changed the default sound settings from the DOSBox configuration file? Have you tried manually setting the soundcard in the game?

I've finished with the 7 promotions and became a Caesar. Now, I tried everything in order to continue playing from there, but the game always goes back to main menu. When I hit ''new game'', nothing is conquered and I have to start all over. Is there a way to avoid this? (I started from Illiricum towards the north).

Thanks.

Curious. I had tried configuring the sound through DOSbox using DOS commands and it didn't work no matter what. Today (as a last ditch effort) I just double-clicked the setsound.exe and ran it through Windows, selecting the same configuration options as before... and now it works. Simple as that. Heh.

Anyway, thanks for your help guys!

My next question is, where is the 'any' key?!

Also, is there really no way to replay the mission?
