![]() Great old game. I like most of Infocom's. They can be incredibly, ridiculously expensive to find, sadly.

![]() this is a nice game. some like to call it a science fiction novel, which is blunt exaggeration - it's more like a science fiction short story.
you travel around rockvil in different future times. there are many places to visit, bad not much going on: only brief descriptions of the surroundings, minimal and repeating interactions with other people, eg. all the waiters in the whole city act and say the exactly same thing and the groceries/bars are all alike. you are not able to talk to the people of rockvil, except for government/church officials. the 2051 simulation is a bit boring, as it resembles 2041 very much. altough it has some suprises like when you visit your home. In one place you can find a "rusty cross", you can take it and carry it along. does it have any other purpose? the developers themselves compared the game to "brave new world" and "1984". this is somewhat misleading as "brave new world" is more of an utopian than dystopian vision and "1984" is concerned with totalitarian aspects of socialism while AMFV plays with apprehensions of liberal values and can maybe seen as a rather naive critique of the reagon/thatcher-years. someting you should pay ATTENTION to when playing: in part II don't fill the record buffer with changes you notice until you reach 2071. because you need to have something recorded from the 2071 simulation or else perelman will not come to his office and you're stuck. it happened to me and i had to replay from the beginning of part II. luckily this was the only bug i run across. 4 points! |

![]() Brilliant story! I never played interactive fiction before - that is, I just tried Freddy Pharkas yesterday but I could never get the hang of these games, as I usually get killed without any progress. I have to admit that I didn't come far without hints, but after reading a few I loved wandering around in the future.
You shouldn't be too afraid to record things, though, every time the buffer is full you can return to the office, wait for Perelman to show up (during working hours!), then let him read and empty the buffer. Yes, I know this is kicking an old thread |
