I've been a PS user for many years. You can make it do some very surprising tasks, above and beyond, simple photo edits. When using PS along with other apps and programs, you may find some very interesting uses for PS, in ways that Adobe never intended.

I get you -r.u.s.s. It's wise to experiment with how the wand picks up the pixels. Also, if you have troubles with highlighting a very specific tone. Use inverse from the header drop down options-it helps when trying to wand grab complicated pattern hues/colors etc.
