I wasn't happy with the default settings too: I have not enough RAM so everything slowed down to halt when I run few proggies at once. But if you disable BOINC at autorun, trim down the maximum percentage you can run it nearly invisibly on your system and still contribute.
I'm a power freak so I'll probably uninstall that whole thing very soon but still, at least I did send few results, doh!

These kind of projects are very fascinating, I've never tried but I'll definitely give it a look , if we can really do something useful for mankind why not!

If you enable the advanced interface, you can tweak every little thing, and that includes memory, as well as disk space, usage, network traffic...
