Either way, I think the chance for a heat-problem is bigger then malware if you look at the symptoms.
Since it's summer, you should check the heat transfer paste of the CPU. It may be vaporized.

As you never know what your brother really does on this PC... -> better get your own.
It's some kind of unwritten basic rule (at least for me): don't share your PC. ever.
