earlier in this thread someone gave a website with lucasarts that you could download a winxp fix that would correct those issues with the loader and let you play the game under windows. Have you tried that yet? It worked fine when I tried it. I think that file is called xwing95.exe....but don't quote me.

Greetings all,

Well, most of you will probably dismiss this as a recruitment post (which it is). However, I felt that there might be a few people who have posted here that would be interested in a little more involvement with the X-wing game.

I am Colonel Gavin Phalon, Second Officer of the Patriot Battle Fleet (http://pbf.rebelsquadrons.org/), which is part of the Rebel Squadrons Star Wars Gaming Club (http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/).

The PBF runs the original X-wing game (X-DOS Floppy, X-DOS CD, and X-95). We fly one custom Fleet mission a month, and will be starting Mission 3 of PBF Tour 6 on Feb 1. The Fleet has been going strong in its current form since 1998. We currently have 58 active pilots on our roster.

Roster

Check out this link to view our latest mission, PBF 6.02, which just finished last night (Jan. 26, '05).

You can also read up on some of the Narratives that pilots have written to go along with their PBF 6.02 Mission Report:

PBF Narratives Thread

As far as I know, the PBF is one of if not the only sizable group that still runs X-wing as its only gaming platform. If there are other groups out there like us, I would love to get in contact with them and perhaps set up friendly competitions or at least keep up friendly relations.

If any of you are at all interested in finding out more about the Fleet, please contact me at:

gphalon@yahoo.com

If you are not interested in getting involved in the Fleet, I still recommend that you check out these links to use if you so choose:

(NOTE: for X-DOS CD, click the XCDR link, not the XCD link)

I hope this helps at least a few people out there. Have a good one all!

I grew up with v1.0 of this game, but I could never find the CD-ROM game with B-Wings. The copy I had was 5 "floppy" disks (called hard disks back then), and it wasn't terribly difficult most of the time. I always had problems with two of the Episode II missions, but aside from that I was fine.
i'm still searchin for b-wing...

can somebody help [/quote]
just the B-Wing addon floppy?

I can get you that one. Just email me.

Also if this was not mentioned, we also play with a Macintosh CD of X-Wing if there are also those of you who only have Macintosh computers.

My excuses to the admin, but I´ll make a precision about floppy disks. HD on a floppy stands for High Density, that´s 1.44 Mb disks, LD or Low Density were about 1.2 Mb. Both were 3.5"
And disk comes from diskette, a frenchy word to refer to small discs wich is the correct word for those round flat things (if you ever opened a diskette you know there´s a small disc inside).
And for the game, well, I just finished downloading it and will give it a try.
Besides I used getright with five segments. Is it really forbidden? It gave me no problem, not like HOTU. Is it only banned by word?

Not quite...
  • 5.25" DD = 360 KB
  • 5.25" HD = 1.2 MB
  • 3.5" DD = 720 KB
  • 3.5" HD = 1.44 MB
DD is double density. There were other variants around (like single density in both cases, and a 2.88 MB variant of 3.5"), but those were the main ones used in PCs. The single density variants were used back with the Commodore 64 and similar machines.

Curiousity question, because I am having a freak'n nasty time with dosbox . Should I be able to directly burn the files onto a cd and have it work without having to unzip them or anything and have it work? Be great to know before I attempt it. I already have enough coasters from failed cd burning projects...

What the heck... one more shouldn't hurt. And besides... come spring, they make good targets (cds also explode when hit by .303 or .30-06 bullets
You can burn the files yes. The result will be no different from using deamon tools to mount the files though. What exactly are the problems you are having?
