I still stick with my opinion.Like somebody said earlier, if you want to show a person you love her, you should give her constant care and attention, and not show it all in just one day.It might have been otherwise in the past, but now Valentine's is just about giving presents.

Valentines Day= A way to make money out of people's emotions inbetween Christmas and Easter.

You seen the episode of The Simpsons with "love day" in it? That's what I think of when Valentines day comes around.
I'm bitter because I'm single but Valentines day was rubbish even when I wasn't so go figure...

You know bitter people used to be an oddity, now you can't throw a used needle without it hitting some depressed and bitter sod, its getting quite annoying.

I used to be bitter, then I settled for megalomania, its much better and people don't think you're that bad to hang out with. Some of you should try it.

As for it being commercial: nobody says you need to buy anything extravagant, just take that special person out, or make a nice meal yourself. But quit using the commercialisation of the day as a pretext not to commemorate it.

Well, I don't like Valentines Day, but it doesn't bother me, and I don't hate it. It may be idiotic, but it's not worth fighting or flaming over. So I voted Yay.

Well, I think VD is even stupid when you have a girlfriend, but I don't really mind it. It's just much more fun and surprising to give (and be given) gifts or little... "Aufmerksamkeiten" on a regular day when you don't expect it, because that shows you think and care about that person all the time, and not only on special days.

However, when you happen to don't have a gf on that particular day, all the fuss about it only rubs it in your face that you are lonely.

When I first herd of Valentine's day I was still a very young boy. My grandfather's name vas Valentin, so... But at that time no religious holidays were celebrated anyway (still in the communist Jugoslavia). So there was no big fuss and only occasionally someone made a card and gave it to somebody else. Those were young loves - childhood crushes - puppy love... (not that I ever recieved - or gave for that matter - a card). That was kindda sweet to watch. But nowdays you get bombarded with hearts from everywhere (but that's marketing - it's got nothing with Valentine's day).

It's not a day for showing your partner you care (like Rainwife said before, and Omuletzu repeated it - partners should show each other respect and love everyday), it was a way to break the ice. You fancied a girl, but didn't dare to aproach her... Then you sent her a card and crossed your fingers. That's what this day should be about!!!

But then again, commertials turn everything into a business deal, so the more they make you feel guilty, the more you'll buy (the richer they get). I'm against that, but not against the day - it's a sweet day... And not the only one I might add (there's also Gregorijevo - St. George - but not the one that killed the dragon...). It's the day when birds start mating - so you can hear them sing all day long (ah the tenderness).
