Oh, it does that on many computers, it's just random, I think the game is reading information incorrectly or somesuch.

Make sure no files are read only. To check or change that select a file, right click on it and select properties. There should be boxes to the bottom of the window. This is especially important for the save files, like in the save folder.

It is also a common error for a lot of games which can't save.

I had first done that, with no success at all. Then I tried different versions of the game, again all the same, same error. Interesting thing is that it creates the file, but it does not work if I try to load it up.

Game works fine in DOSBox on XP machine.

System I am using has 2 partitions (6GB and 2GB), it's 450 P3 with SB compatible card. Sound is working fine, and I have SVGA working great, but need to get games to save.

I solved it by running it from DOS.

I might create insturction on how to set up different DOS shortcuts from win98.

Yeah my brother and I did the same. It was awesome.

I didn't get into settlers 3 (or was it 2) as much as this one.

The disk full errors happen because of a discrepancy between the size of the FATs Serf City is expecting. You'll need a DOS emulator or a computer that can boot into pure DOS; the dinky command prompt XP provides won't work.

Actually, I CAN save when I run the game in winXP, but not on win98. On win98 i have to play it in pure DOS. In fact I was so thrilled when I got winXP and the game finally would save. I just don't have any sound in winXP, but for sound I play on a different machine that has true DOS.
