I used to work at my university as a helpdesk technician.

The most likely way to junk up your computer online, from what I've seen, is to use your computer as a pr0n and warez receptacle.

Just browsing normally will give you some adware issues, but usually nothing serious.

Oh, and using AOL doesn't help, either.

I think AOL is pretty much designed to muck up a system

But back to the topic...

So glad something is being done about spam mail. I can barely make myself check my hotmail account any more. For every one actual email I get (usually an Abandonia PM notification nowadays, hehe), I get about 50 junk mails.

I've managed to avoid that (unless you count irritating forwards from my friends saying "Forward this to 16 people in 30 seconds or you'll be eternally cursed and no-one will ever want to kiss you EVER AGAIN!"). It helps to have addresses, particularly on Hotmail, which aren't obvious ones that a robot might generate (like johnsmith567@hotmail.com). my Gmail account has had to have a couple of spamming accounts blacklisted on it, but the filter had no problem dealing with them.

Yeah, I'm just tired of power hungry admins closing threads for no apparent reason. When two users make a few successive replies the thread has to be closed because it's considered a "personal attack". I think admins love exercising their powers to fuel their superiority complex and their ego.

Anyways, back to the topic. It is a smart thing not to show your email on boards like these. People search message boards to add emails to their junk list.

Also, making 0.75 million dollars a month from spam seems fascinating to me.

Hotmail's gotten a lot better for me in terms of spam, only get 1-2 every couple of days, annoying to say the least, but liveable.

As with gmail, i remember there was a problem in november with spam, but that seems to have past, so far not a single spam since then. k:

I don't have problem with hotmail any more, but my oldest email, yahoo account is full of spam. (about couple of thousends emails last time I checked)

But I noticed less spam in the last couple of weeks on new server I installed.

Each email reaching the servers got checked for its content, and then graded with number from 1 to 9, where 1 is no spam and 9 is 100% sure spam. I made system delete 7-9, and mark 4-6 as spam, but deliver it in spam folder. Users only have 1-3 in their mail box. With this settings I have only 1 spam in the while, and I used to have couple hundreds spam emails a day. (got web masters accounts for couple of domains forwarded to my account  )
