NTSC is 60hz, but it's still inferior to PAL, as PAL has superior picture quality. Unfortunately most PAL dvd's are made from NTSC masters, which means that the potential for superior quality is rarely used. Another funny thing is that PAL runs 25 frames per second, instead of the usual 24 frames, which means that PAL dvd's run 4% faster than NTSC dvd's (not that you actually notice that, unless watching the same movie in PAL and NTSC simultaneously).

I am under impression that NTSC has better picture quality then PAL.

My father has VHS recorder that supports both PAL and NTSC tapes, and both PAL and NTSC output. Since he got it, a lot of people asked him to make a copiies from one format to another one.

The thing is that PAL has 576 horizontal lines, where NTSC only uses 480 lines. This means that the PAL resolution is higher. The problem is that if the PAL dvd is created from an NTSC master, the picture quality won't be better, even though the resolution is.

My favorite episode of Star Trek is the one with the eggs. The flying egg dudes! I am sure Picard know what I am talking about LOL
"I'm FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" LOL

'Wrath of Khan' is just a classic.

I would like to actually become more of a Trekkie. That reminds me, I need a course on speaking Klingon......

I appreciate all the comments, I HAVE seen DVD rental services and that's actually a very good idea...

as for the series, aye, TNG is probably the best.... unfortunately I've never seen DS9 and Enterprise is useless, so there's not much options on TV today for an aspiring Trekker :P I came in too late...

Either way, think I'm gonna watch em in order... even though I've been hearing from many, many sources, that both the Motion Picture, and the Generations one are pretty bad....

Edit: And the point about play.com is moot anyway because they don't ship to Canada
