I was never into Star Trek as a young kid, mostly because I didn't know anything about anything and I followed the whole "omgz star wars is so much better because it has lightsabers!!!!1!!1" mentality, without ever actually having watched the show... however, for the last few months I have had the pleasure of being able to watch Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Star Trek: Voyager six days a week on the Space Channel. I am astounded at what I missed out on and these three hours are times I look greatly forward to, because unlike other TV shows I've seen time and time again, every Star Trek episode is something new I've never seen.

As for my question, I decided to go buy Star Trek: The Next Generation on DVD, as I figured seven seasons of content could tide me for several days, only to find it cost 900 dollars Canadian. Looking at the original series wasn't much better, and now I am faced with another task... watching the movies. They cost around 25-30 bucks each, though, and I'm not sure where to begin as I'm a relatively new fan... which Star Trek movie would be a good place to start? I've been hearing Wrath of Khan as a possibility, but the main problem is I haven't managed to see the Space Seed episode of the original series yet -_-.

Any comments are greatly appreciated.

I saw only couple of the movies, so I could not help you with what to buy.

For some reason I found Star Treak series not so good as Battlestar Galactica.

I watch Battlestar Galactica and Andromeda occasionally as well, but they don't hold the same charm for me that Star Trek does.

play.com is cheaper, yes, but they don't ship to Canada. And when converting the Euro to Canadian dollars I'd still have to pay about 560 bucks plus shipping for a 7 season set.....

Well I saw most of the Star Trek (except some of the newer series...).

The first part of the movie isn't that good...
I'd suggest these movies: Star Trek 2, 3 and 4 (that's actaully a sort of a trilogy within the Star Trek movies). You don't need to know much about star trek to watch them either.

About the series... Star trek TNG was probably the high point in the Star Trek franchize, but there are several episodes of the original Star Trek you simply have to watch. IF you're able to get it I suggest: The Patterns of Force! There are other good episodes, but not all of them (some are prety weird...).

But I don't think it's worth $900 to pay for them (unless you're really, really, REALLY into it). I suggest you try and watch them on TV (there are bound to be some re-runs somewhere). Also you might want to watch Star Trek: DS9 (Deep Space 9) also a series out of this franchise (thisr series - made right after The Next Generation). With Voyager they already started being inconsistent and started loosing the 'touch', bu tit was Enterprise that really spoiled it all (At least for me).

Enjoy and watch out for the .

Another reason you can't use play is that you need NTSC version, not PAL. (unless you planned to watch them on computer)

To paraphrase T.Turner, what's pal got to do with it? If you mean region coding, yes I forgot about that, but if you use a pc you can use programs like videolan to play any region dvd. Plus there are plenty of stand alone dvd players that are region free or something. Well, at least in europe.

Are you sure about play not sending to canada? I though they will send to every country, with shipping free, or at least shipping free to europe..hmm, not sure.

560 is cheaper than 900 though.
