So every time you add a new order, it pile up... And you end up with months (game time) of backlog.
it only takes a couple of days and ive got, like, 10 of those ever useful jewel crafters and cheese makers.

and btw anyone know why a lot of people say unicorns are so dangerous? i have a hunter hunting them and have a million or so piled up out side yet not even one of my dogs is dead =p

That's exactly how you are supposed to dispatch them. I never really had problems with monsters which are rumored to be very dangerous, but elephants, unicorns and carps are rumored to be very deadly when met with melee weapons... Which can also be the case when a marksdwarf run out of bolts.

I didn't have time to do my story yet... But it would not stop me from packaging the game and pass it to the next ruler.

Any insight on how to proceed to do that?

I believe you can just put in the region and current folders in a rar/zip file, upload somewhere and pass it on to next player. The region is, of course, the one the fortress is on.

However, put up the update first before we discuss who goes next.

Dear Journal.

In this late spring of the year 300, our beloved King decreed that new settlements would be created to celebrate the 300th aniversary of the creation of our mighty kingdom. Because of my "close relationship" with one of the closest advisor of the King, I been promptly summoned to the royal throne and given the task to lead six other stout dwarves in the hope of surviving the trip and create a new mighty fortress in a secluded area of our mighty kingdom.

Curse that damned advisor! I should have known that sleeping with her daughter, even if only once, would be the end of my peacefull existance here! If I ever manage to survive, he'll know the way I think about all this!

(sigh)

To make our trip even easier, this "oh so wise" advisor decided that he would send an escort to make sure that we arrive safely. My orders are thus to recruit six other poor souls to follow me to an unknown position so we can start our lives anew.

Thrilling.

Luckily for me, some of my close friends saw thru the whole scheme and sworn to me that they would follow me to the depht of hell and beyond rather than to see me live thru this misery of an injustice. I guess that they all been put off by the authorities at least once, and are fed up by the stupid demands of the aristocracy class around here. When someone is not simply executed because he forgot that red glass is forbidden by trade, it is a poor artisan who didn't deliver an impossible demand who is hammered to death. Ridiculous, but such is life... And it is something which we will be able to escape at our new outpost, if only for a short time.

So... Picking up our team, starting with me as team leader, was rather easy. After training everybody in their own fields and carefully packing up our goods, we set forth for adventure, adamantine and riches.

History shall remember the name of the 7 bold adventurers who stepped up and volunteered to the task of founding a new colony: Angry Axe, Eagle of Fire, El_Quia, Fubb, Panthro, Supa_Mario and TheChosen! And I shall stay indebted to them forever for allowing me to find an exit door to all this.

Alas, I have no more time to write in this journal. While we are ready to depart, the escort leader told me that we have several months of travel time in front of us. It is a good thing that I have forseen many months of food and drinks as supply, for I am quite sure that this "friendly" advisor of ours would prefer to see us dead by starvation or madness before we arrive.

Only time will tell...

---------------------------========-------------------------

Late fall of year 300.

My dear journal, it been a little while since I had the chance to add another line. We were rather busy following our escort and surviving the strange animated monsters which roam free in this acursed place. We spotted several times moving skeletons which our escort dispached with some effort. Truth is, they are slowly but surely taking losses and I am afraid that if we do not arrive at our destination soon, we never will...

It is again time to move. I pray that we arrive safely at our destination.

---------------------------========-------------------------

Late winter of year 300.

Our last escorter is dead. This time he fell down a cliff while fighting what Fubb called a "Sasquatch". To be frank, I have no idea what that thing was... But we are all gratefull that this heroic dwarf brought it along in his fall, for we are not sure we could have survived a fight with it. Even injured.

My companions are starting to get worried about our destination. This is a strange place indeed, and I wish I had never asked my friends to help me complete this foolish task. I might have doomed them all along with me...

---------------------------========-------------------------

Early spring of 301.

Our wagon having unfortunately broken down mere miles before we arrived at the exact predefined point, I had to make a hard decision between founding the new colony at this exact spot or to have myself and the rest of the expedition walk up to the mountain side and risk having our food and supplies stolen or eaten up by wild animals. Knowing that our food would likely spoil anyways in the time it would take us to strike the mountainside and come back here, I thus reluctantly decided to stop in the middle of nowhere valley and ordered our miners to strike the earth at the very spot that we were standing on.

My first order of business in this undesired situation was to secure the location of our new home. Founding a new colony by digging down instead of straight forward is one thing, but everybody agreed that leaving the only access to our new home without a minimum of defense and cover would be pure madness. After taking advice from our Carpenter Capro and our Mason Angry Axe, I took the decision to erect temporary wooden walls around our only access point until we have the time and the ressources needed to build something better. Grabbing an axe and asking for our resident Farmer Supa_Mario to do the same, I left basic orders for our miners and left Capro in charge of the construction of our defense while I was busy hacking down trees into logs which would be needed for the construction. Having no other work to give to Angry Axe, he volunteered to help Capro with the walls as much as he could with his feeble skill in wood construction. Fortunately for him, Capro proved to be a good instructor for it took only a few moments, while I wasn't even looking, to erect the skeleton of the structure.

A few days of honest labor later, our worries were mostly gone.

Even though it only took a couple of weeks to complete a basic wall around our new home, it took no more time for our miners to dig us basic accomodations, including a nicely sized farm area. We have been lucky enough to find the first ground layer to be soil suitable for farming without the need for complicated contraptions to bring water to the desired area. Our resident planter, Supa_Mario, was already happily at work planting the little amount of seeds we brough along with us.

Since our miners had little work left to do, I ordered them to dig deeper until they meet rock so they could carve us bedrooms worthy of the proud dwarves that we are. Meanwhile, I climbed on top of our tallest wall to scan the region around us, and have found two points of great interest. The first one is bauxite, a rock which is rumored to be strong enough to resist magma, while the second location is unearthed malachite, an ore which can be smelt into copper. Upon hearing the good news, El_Quia immediatly announced that this was a good omen for the future of our settlement. I wish I could share his optimism.

I have to admit that the news of the new sleeping quarters being completely finished did raise my spirit somewhat. Only a few weeks passed already and we already made huge progress in securing our near future. Furthermore, we will all be able to sleep in a real bed since what seems like an eternity.

I do not know which I find more appealing right now: a good barrel sized dwarf-made drink or a small nap on a wooden bed. The mere thought scares me...

(to be continued)
