Obscure hardware has a really negative meaninig. At the time the game was made it wasn't obscure. Else they wouldn't make it for that particular harware. But obviously it wasn't a mainstream one - so there are no standard emulators that can do that. I did change the one about the boar. |

![]() Kosta's Desert Strike review (mostly fine):
* * * * * ... places entertainment in front<"ahead"> of realism. You are a chopper pilot and have to carry out various missions in the Gulf<caps>. They will vary from seek & destroy<sp> ones to rescue and delivery operations. There will be some power-ups on<"along"> the way as well. The controls are as simple as they can get. Arrow<"come: arrow"> keys for moving around, and three keys for shooting your weapons. You are equipped with a standard machine gun, and two types of missiles - one light and unguided, and the other guided ... * * * * * |

Oops, I meant to mention that one - as far as I remember from the book the game is based on, the visiting Druid had the menhir dropped on him and Asterix had to acquire the ingredients for Getafix, the resident (and titular) druid to make the potion. The other changes, in blue before, weren't mine. That's the end of the first page of games - not bad for a day's work, eh? |

You have justified why I should have changed got to a better term: by using "got," you weren't exactly clear as to how you wanted to write that sentence. Obscure hardware is less negative than weird hardware. Just because you are unfamiliar with something doesn't make it weird. Something not common is obscure, not weird. Quote:
If you wanted me to get more technical with the reviews here, I would have really butchered them further. Some outstanding problems I noted were lack of content, illogical order/structure of paragraphs, babbling, personal references, plot revelations, and anecdotes, among other things. |

![]() Obscure - one of the meaning of this word (widely spread in Europe) is also perverted!
Would you change the phrase "he got shot" into "he has a shot"? If you knew what a menhir is you'd not make such a mistake (but obviously you're trying cover for your lack of vacabulray by being too thorough with grammar) |

![]() again, since they aren't my reviews and since there are a great many of them I intend only to correct the technical mistakes and the odd sentence here and there, rather than making more significant changes. Feel free to post your own alternative reviews to games in their discussion threads if you feel the current ones aren't up to scratch - or volunteer to review things yourself if you fancy being the "official" reviewer.

![]() Kosta's Doom 2 review:
As an aside, I hope nobody minds my multiple posting - it seems to make sense to have 1 review per post (except sequels as with cannon fodder above). I'll start new threads for the genres other than Action to keep the threads shorter, and make it easier to update when things are uploaded. * * * * * Doom 2 is a definite<"definitely a"> classic shooter. Following up<"on from"> Doom,<comma> 1<del> you play the same character in<"on"> his return to Earth<caps>. Of course,<comma> on returning to Earth you<del>,<comma> instead of a wonderful party and maybe a medal or two for your heroic efforts,<comma> you find that somehow the same aliens you fought on the moon have now overrun Earth. Utilizing everything in your arsenal;<semicolon> 9mm pistol, double-barreled<sp> shotgun, laser guns, and yes the infamous chainsaw you must begin a new battle for Earth. The gameplay<one word> is,<comma> again, very good for one of the first shooters. Hardcore fans of the previous games<del> will thoroughly enjoy this one. The game also boasts dozens and dozens of levels , able<" - plenty"?> to keep you occupied for hours of gory fun. The reason <del>I gave this game a lower<3 is average, surely?> rating is<del> for two reasons. One, the game just isn’t nearly up to par with current shooters or many other great shooters released during the time this game has existed. Two, the game has a serious lack of plot. I understand that one of the big reasons this game has such a huge following is due to that simple fact;<semicolon> less plot, more<sp> mindless violence. Alas, for me I need a decent plot to keep me coming back to play the game. In closing<"conclusion" is better I think>, this game can be a lot of fun if you need to get your anger out, or just enjoy some mindless violence. But due to its lack of plot, it probably won’t keep your attention for too long. So grab your shotguns and chainsaws and get ready from some gore! * * * * * |

![]() Wormpaul's Double Dragon review: (edited to include Iron_Scarecrow's suggestions - cheers!)
* * * * * Back in the old days… Little Wormpaul was sitting behind his 386, <comma and space wrong way round>and for the first time ever he started DD1 (Double Dragon 1) up. And there it was... ... We made it to the final boss, and with extremely good teamwork, we got<"took"> that bastard<I wouldn't write that in a review, but it's up to you> down. At last I could see the princess whom I was<"I had been"> dreaming about all the time. But she didn't want to come to<don't need these really> both of us, she only wanted me. Then I decided to place my fist in my brother'<ap>s face and he died. Life was just so good with me and my little princess... ... Another problem is the movement of the players. It is really frustrating to see yourself standing next to an enemy and no matter what you are trying, you just can’t hit him because he is standing too<sp> close or something. The A.I.<sp> of the enemies is really boring and once you know the right tricks you can beat almost all the enemies down with 1 type<"the same kind"> of fighting. I can keep on talking about all the weak points in the game (the length of the game, the enemies who all look the same, the stupid princess hanging on the wall...) But before I scare everyone off, those who have nice memories to<"of"> this game should give it a try. It will you take less than<sp> 30 minutes to finish the game. For all<"those"> who never heard of it before, try it one time<"once"> and see where Golden Axe (an<del> great game IMO) got its ideas from. But don’t expect too<sp> much from it... * * * * * And Yamcha565656's DD3 review: * * * * * Here is the last<"final"> part of the Double Dragon series. It was made in 1992.<del> by Virgin Interactive. The graphics aren’t bad, but I can’t say the same thing for the sound. In the whole game you will hear about 3 different samples. The first one is when you hit someone, the second when you hit the boss of the current level and the last one is the sound of the swords of the Japan<either "Japan" or "the Japanese" - not played the game so I'm not sure which was meant> in the third mission. The story won’t get an Oscar. Billy and Jimmy are going to finish their martial arts course when they suddenly meet a mysterious old woman. The woman tells them about some strange roseta<the word is "Rosetta" but I doubt you meant that - it's just one specific stone. I'd delete this word.> stones with secret powers... ... while jumping. You’ll use the last all the time because it is the easiest way to destroy your enemies. You also have the option of jumping against a wall and hitting your enemies after you bounce back. Sometimes the game may become so annoying that if you are not a calm person, you will want to break the computer while yelling at the game. This arrives<"begins"> in the third mission when the ninjas get you to the wall and every time<2 words> you get up you fall back down immediately after getting hit by ninja stars. One thing I liked in the game were the shops. You can find them in every mission except the fourth. There you can buy some tricks, weapons, energy, power or an extra guy (to play with Jimmy or someone else). The other thing was the motorcycle. During the first and the<del> last missions<pl> you’ll have to kick the bad guys from their motorcycles. But the good things end here. Jumping and kicking gets boring and you often decide to play something else. You can't take objects and throw them at your enemies. The bosses are quite<sp> easy to beat with no special hits or powers. You just have to hit them 10 times and they are dead. If you are a fan of the series play this last part, but in the other case<"if not,"> try something else. NOTE: This game doesn’t have a quit option. You will have to press Alt+Tab and then when you back<"return"> to Windows you can press Ctrl+Alt+Del. (This is only a problem if you don’t use DOSBox<sp>) * * * * * |

![]() Red Diablo's review of Duck Tales:
* * * * * When you start playing this game you might be surprised. Though it looks cute and cuddly from the start, soon you'll realise this is not just another kids'<ap> game. This game is for all ages, and depending on your profile you'll feel differently to<either "feel differently about" or "react differently to"> each section of it. The characters should be familiar to most people who like cartoons, have kids, or ever was one<"were kids themselves">... ... Also in the game is Webbigail, Scrooge'<ap>s niece, a spicy<sp> little cutie who helps out in the same way as the nephews... When you want to go to a specific location you go there by flying the plane as McQuack, which is not as easy as it may sound. You have everything from whales,<del> to anvils, hot air balloons,<comma> to<del> barns and mountains to worry about, and when (if..) you reach your destination the landing is where McQuack'<ap>s ability really kicks in... Each level you play as one of the good guys depending on which level you're on.<"On each level you play as one or other of the good guys"> Your main aim ... ... have any composer rolling around in his grave <adding "(even the ones who are still alive)" might be funnier>... The playability is still ok, even if you have to tap the keys really quickly<sp> in some levels, no holding down<"without holding them down">, else your character will start looking like a kangaroo on drugs. In closing<"In conclusion,"> this game is good for its<sp> time, but you'll need to be a fan of the cartoon to really like playing it today. In fact I was leaning towards giving it a 3 but TheVoid, who let me review this game, would never forgive me as he really seems to love the game. Also it's a game from 1990 so I guess you shouldn't expect miracles from it. But it will help you pass a few hours on a rainy day, and that's what games are all about isn't it ?!?<"isn't that what games are all about?"> * * * * * |
