Humbug, I think... If the brain is not complete, there cannot be a way to live on, because if this one part of a brain controls all the reflexes, the other part(s) control the movement-orientation in the surrounding and all the nerves-coordination, without which no one would be able to move any part of the body (they would be stunned).

Actualy.. the story is true...

And yes.. the body might well function without a brain..
Many animals don't have a brain..

There is a sea-creatur that when it has found a place to settle, it eats its own brain, and lives on without it...

I know the thing you ar etalking about but that is barely considdered an animal. For the most part it is a intermediate stage between a multi-celled organism and a single-celled organism. Not very rellevant to the story at hand.
