![]() hello! Sorry if it is offtopic, but does anyone know, if there is MS-DOS-like operating system for an old computer without a hard disk out there?
I've searched a lot, but I need the one that allows you changing flops after boot (so I can run "huge" games). The only thing I've found around the net that does that is "ExtDOS" ( http://extdos.siteburg.com ), but it is in Russian. Maybe you can advise me? :help: P.S. Does anyone here know Russian? |

![]() DOS is a short for Disk Operating System.
You can have DOS running from floppy drives (3.5" or 5.25") without problems. |

![]() So? After it boots, what if I need to change the DOS floppy to the one with the game?
I need one with a ramdisk, IMHO... |

![]() When you load DOS, then you switch floppy and start program/game.
This was the way computers worked before HD. And you can always look for some old HD. |

![]() DOS resides in your memory after loading and then you can swap disks. Or, if you're one of those lucky few who have a dual disk-drive, you can actually leave the DOS disk in :w00t: Wicked oldschool nerding that is!

![]() I still have the system disks for both my 286 laptop and desktop.
Do you have a desktop? if so, install a second drive. If you don't have another 3,5" slot, buy one of these 3,5" to 5,25" frames you can find on eBay. What kind of computer do you have? |
