![]() I just finished following instructions in the DOSbox tutorial up to having finished installing DOSbox and the next step directing me to use DOS basic commands by going to Start and then clicking on DOSbox shortcut opens up two windows, one of which is Z:\>_ it should be reading C:\>_....I followed all the steps creating folders, downloading, etc. Where did I go wrong and how do I fix it so that using Dosbox shortcut will give me the C: prompt in the future?
I tried downloading Dosbox twice with problems interrupting the downloading (from Forgenet in Georgia) When I tried downloading from New York, on the third try, I successfully downloaded Dosbox. |

![]() Quote:
Mount is the command for making DosBox set up a new volume C is the drive-letter the new volume will have C:\DOS\CDrive is the REAL directory on your harddrive you want to have the VIRTUAL C:\ to start in (so all the directory-tree in C:\DOS\CDrive will be under the EMULATED C:\ ) If this doesn't work, then there is something wrong on your side with your software/hardware Simply typ this: mount C C:\ C: cd games cd the_game_you_want_to_play_that_is_located_there game.exe

![]() Dear Titan,
Thanks for responding. I am a real beginner with computers and I didn't quite follow everything you were saying. Could you give me very easy, explicit instructions on what you feel I should do to fix this problem? Do you want me to go to dosbox. conf and type in new commands? Would I be best served by removing everything I have set up and trying to follow the tutorial again with a fresh start? |

![]() I just deleted my folders and dosbox and started over again. After creating the new folders and downloading DOSbox, I still get the Z: prompt instead of the C

![]() Let's try troubleshout this way:
If you followed tutorial, you should have on C drive on your laptop DOS folder. Do you have it? Inside that folder there should be another folder called CDrive. Do you have it? In you config file you have line like this: mount C: C:\DOS\CDrive. Do you have it? (NOTE: make sure you are using \ instead of /) Now save your config file and run DOSBox. What do you get? Z or C? |

![]() Just do as Titan said: mount c c:\my\uber\dos\games
Then type C: and you'll be taken there. On a sidenote, is it possible to keep this mapped even when you exit DOSBox? |

![]() No, unless you edit the dosbox.conf and put it at the end where it's written "autoexec.bat".
You could, for example, put commands there so you don't have to mount your c:\ drive everytime, It would be done automatically when you start DOSBox. |

![]() I started over again and I finally got a C>. In the tutorial which says that the Destination folder should say C:\DOS\DOSBox.-0.63, the picture below (Browse For Folder) you have DOS lit up in blue so I was putting it in that folder and kept getting the Z>. Looking down and noticing a +next to CDrive, I tried to install it this time in that folder and successfully got a C> when I went through the Dosbox shortcut. Hopefully the next steps will work properly. Thanks for everyone's comments and patience. Just bear in mind that their are computer users who are not as adept as most people here who have grown up with computers and need everything spelled out clearly.
