Well, children often do things to con their parents out of something. But the parents aren't stupid - if they buy it, they buy it so the child can have it (the lay is just that last final push that helps them decide). Still it's not a good strategy.
It's not advisable to fool your parents like that by sabotaging your own computer, but on the other hand - if something like a new computer could ruin the trust between the parent and a child then there wasn't a lot of trust there in the first place.
It's your call. You should know your parents best. If they can afford it you should try to get them to buy one (let's say if that would mean they won't be able to get that extra 15th day on their two week summer vecation). But if they can't afford it (meaning they'd have to resort to eating food in a can for the next month because they'd buy the computer) then stick with this one. You should be the judge of the situation - as none of us know your parents (or even you personally for that matter).
