You're right--though there's nothing wrong with +100 hit points per drink, especially when it's added after you've visited Nightshadow. That means your party usually gets to take two swigs a piece, one to bring it up to approximately where it would be at a +5 level, and another for the additional 100 points beyond that.
Let's see...
Save before you eat any of the "forbidden fruit" in the Darkside. Some of the fruit that causes negative effects are pretty counter-intuitive, in my opinion.
Lloyd's Beacon is a damn useful spell: let's you set a spot, and port back to it, whenever you want to, as long as your character is awake, has enough spell points, and your party is out of battle. Although only Sorcerers and Archers can cast LB, at higher levels you can find or purchase items that contain the spell. Be sure to give one to each party member, and let them set independent locations. Two LB items on a single party member will always go to the same place.
Return repeatedly to the rundown castle on the Lightside. You'll be able to purchase repeated upgrades, that will yield opening stones to other dungeons.
Although you don't have to sleep for 24 hours before feeling the effects, try to get your party in a regular cycle of sleeping (always 8 hours, unless you're awakened in an unsafe area) when night hits. That's because come 5 AM, all fountain effects, spells, blessings, etc, wear off on your party. You probably don't want to be in the middle of somewhere dangerous without a quick exit back to town when all your bonuses, etc, wear off.
Giving a donation in Vertigo until the blessing takes effect is a good, cheap way of getting some nice bonuses early in the game. Later, when your cleric has Day of Protection, you'll find it far more powerful in giving you the same bonuses.
Note that if you have to unpetrify, resurrect, etc, a party member at a temple, he/she will lose all their fountain effects, etc. Uncursing is separate, and doesn't lose these.
More to come.
