Well, after the surgery, the doctor might wanna give the patient a prescripton of an antibiotic. Now, the doctor better be aware of the problem that this can cause bacteria to evolve and become resistant to antibiotics, thus greatly increasing the problem of infections. Evolution is not only important to explain the past, but also for the future. Without being able to explain the past, how do you choose actions for the future??
