Why the germans are digging holes in our beaches ( ok big stereotype Why the Americans have chosen Heineken to be a classy beer? Why we dutch people think that Corona Extra is classy? Why other cultures find our mayonaise on fries strange? questions...questions... |

![]() I think it's weird that some states in the US have laws against certain types of sex (like e.g. BJs).
I think it's weird how people from other countries are so obsessed with Oktoberfest in Bavaria. It's the German/Bavarian white trash getting drunk and beating up each other. There is nothing cool about it, it's embarrassing! Don't go there! |

![]() French fries with mayonese? Eeeew!
One thing I saw when I was in Switzerland. In the weekends, people started drinking beer early in the morning, and were drinking all day, without getting noticably drunk. Oktoberfest is probably a lot like ?jó?hátí? í Vestmannaeyjum. A huge HUGE party, thrown in a little island south of iceland. Everybody get really drunk and awsome bands play. I don't see how Danes can drink during their lunch breaks at work. Just doesn't seem right. (I'm stereotyping, but I've heard it's common. Although I've never been to Denmark myself). |

![]() There are a few things I find odd...
First off - how come none of your languages has duality? In Slovene we have more then just singular and plural - we also have the dual form - which is used to refer just to two people (in English or German there is only one word that has such conotation - BOTH/BEIDE. It is refering to two of a kind - in slovene it's everywhere). I know most languages don't have this form anymore. Another thing (mostly applies to America): why do you put tabasco or mustard on everything? If you like spicy things how come you dislike garlick and horse-radish? Importaint difference (don't know if it applies to all parts of America): Why don't women get payed sickleave for children? Some friends of mine were not able to stay home after birth (on maternity leave). In Slovenia you get 9 months (after the birth and sick leave everytime a child is ill - all is payed). Most European countries have even more (or a progressive scale - up to 5 payed years for the 4th child...). In US (at least the women I know) you have to quit workl to stay home with a child? BTW - I've started a topic that might be of some use. It was called Your Colture |

![]() Seba,
you mean midva, vidva, midve...? My language supposed to be close to your's, and we still don't have it. Strange, every other language is wrong. I find it quite interesting that Americans are calling pizza their own food. Another interesting thing that most of people who likes classic rock are unaware that many of popular bands are not from USA. (Pink Floyd etc.) |

![]() Actually, Pizza was invented by Italians who had immigrated to America, ditto with chow mein, only that was invented by Chinese immigrants obviously.
@Anubis, it's commonly known that England is the home of classic rock! |

![]() It is commonly known in Europe, but not here.
Most of people I talked about music were surprised about the fact that some groups they tought American turns out to be from Europe. |

![]() You're right. That's what I mean. I know of only one more language that has this (Lužiška Srbščina - an ethnic minority in Germany - about 600k population).
Other languages don't have this (any more). The old common euro-indian language had this. There are a few more things I found odd, but I just can't remember them now. I'll reply latter on. |
