So if people don't think it is a great idea, (we are the only site that offers anything like it), then there is no real reason to continue with it.
I hope you're not disapointed Tom, but I don't think that list is what definds us (yet). It's very informative, but there are still many games missing (I realize what a gigntic task you and Timpsi are undertaking with it). I do use it regularly (to check for the status of the games), but outside the updaters and reviewers I doubt other people would find some practical value in it (except to satisfy their curiosity).
The list is very informative, but I guess most people (certainly most visitors) don't care about the status of the game, but only if it's downloadable or not.
I would like to see that list grow, but I think it's just that extra something this site offers (like the box/cd/disk scans). It's not really needed, but it's very good to have.

HOTU

+ Large database of games that other sites don't have
+ Includes fanmade and freeware
- VERY slow
- Annoying ads
- Not all the games work
- Only one screenshot per game

ABANDONIA

+ Friendly, helpful forum
+ Daily updates
+ Good layout
+ Pages load quickly
+ Old Warez list is a nice touch (but still missing games)
- Smaller games are used because of bandwith

Hmm...

As absolutely no-one has mentioned the oldwarez list, does that mean it is a sucky addition? Because it is huge amount of work keeping it updated and adding new games every single day, checking statuses, locating shops, homepages for freeware and whatnots.

So if people don't think it is a great idea, (we are the only site that offers anything like it), then there is no real reason to continue with it.
Well, I found out that "Baldies" was abandonware from that "oldwarez list", so I' m very gratefull it exists... and i think most people doesn' t even realize how much work it must take to update it... As time passes, if it continues to "grow", some day maybe even people from other sites (similar to this one) will use it to check the games they want to host.

What i want to say is, keep up the good work k: (I know this isn' t "enough" to be considered "support" but i don' t think i can do better, sorry)

That is one of my driving goals, really

First of all, this isnt "Which one is better" topic.

Mention the good and bad things of these two sides.

My point of view:
Abandonia:
+Nice reviews and lots of pictures
+Great forum
+No pop'ups
-small compared to HOTU
-Under surveillence of ESA

HOTU:
+VERY huge site: Tons of games!
+Random Selection
-Slow
-Small reviews: Some information, box cover and one picture.

Got it?
Home of the Underdogs is more powerful than Abandonia. We must admit that. I myself often go there, when I can't find some game.

I have never found a use for the oldwarez list, Tom. I mean, most things on there are on Abandonia, soon going to be on Abandonia or can't be on Abandonia.

I believe it's of more use for uploaders than the common visitor.

It's useful for updaters, admins, other site admins, and most importantly requesters.

Instead of asking whether or not a game is abandonware, one can simply use the list, or if someone asks - a member can easily use the list to quickly figure out if a the game requested can be hosted.

Even if the game isn't on the list (which is now containing over 2200 titles), one can look up the producer and see if that producer is ESA protected. If not, then the game has a huge chance of being abandoned.

And the list is also useful for reviewers.
Say you want to review a game, but isn't quite sure which game to choose. Simply look at games you like, notice the producer, and then search for that producer. Suddenly you'll have tons of games to choose from, and can easily find one that looks promising and is abandoned.

The list has many many uses, or at least that is the plan behind it. :bleh:

EDIT:
You can even use the list to locate Freeware games. Simply pick a letter and browse the games by status. Most of the Freeware games links to the official homepage of that game (if the game isn't hosted on AB or AR).

well when I first learned about the joys of downloading abandoned games I found Underdogs first and went there alot, I found Abandonia one day and I really have not looked back.

I love the community here (even if I don't post as much as I read), good technical support, and a good selection that has been tested before posted, and great reviews.

Underdogs just has more titles available, but really how many do I need..I can barely keep up with what I like here.

The only thing I don't like is the time needed to log on to hotu forums.
I never use them any more.
Ditto. I left over a year ago and just didn't bother to come back.
