Sure I watch it on occasion and there is a good reason why it ran for 11 seasons. But I'm not a fan. It has been rerun to death now.

I'm ashamed to agree with you.
MASH is extremely boring and predictable.

And if you watched it, you might wanna state who your favorite character was - mine was major Charles Emerson Wintchester the 3rd.
It was a great show, overall, even if it did run much longer than the war that provided the backdrop. It never really went into an unchecked decline. There were hiccups whenever the cast changed, but none of the shows struck me as bad. Unlike most long running series (like ST:TNG, DS9, or The Simpsons) it was brought to an end while audiences were still enjoying it.

I always had a soft spot for Colonel Flag (the military intelligence officer who typified the impression that military intelligence is an oxymoron). Of the core group of characters, the writers made a point to give them each some time in the sun, and to reveal themselves as more than cardboard stereotypes. The secondary characters (Rosie, Sgt. Rizzo, the cook, and others that I cannot recall) may have been flat, but they all had elements that seemed to make them fun to play.

The episode that made the most lasting impression on me was the collection of nightmares experienced by various members of the medical staff.

David Ogden Stiers (Major Winchester) has had a second career as a voice actor. If you are a fan of Studio Ghibli films, in the english dubs, he voices Gumaji the boilerman in Spirited Away, and Piccolo the aircraft engineer in Porco Rosso. He also voice acted the superintelligent hamster Snowball in Pinky and the Brain. Finally, he took over the voice of the Penguin in Batman: The Animated Series, after the death of Paul Williams. Outside of cartoons, he narrated at least one episode of science documentary series NOVA (the one episode that I know he did dealt with the disappearance of the Stardust, an aircraft that, instead of being taken by aliens, flew into a mountainside).
