_I_ think this culture or sub-culture what ever you may call it did enough crap.

In Germany the tracks of the hippies is snotty young people that have no respect for no one and they don't know anything about manners. They think they never owe poeple something or have to be thankful. Everything is understood.

Geez, I got excited a bit... sorry...

Have fun...

Riders on the storm.........tin-ti-ni-niin.
Riders on the storm.........tin-tii-na-nai-na-na

Into this house we`re born
Into this world were thrown.

Riders on the storm.........yeeeeeeeeeeeah.

Too much acid and weed and bad higiene, allthough the ideals were love and peace, and there is nothing wrong with that.

yeeeeeeeeeeah.

Yep, sadly, Gregor, there was a distinct lack of soap at the campsite... and clean water... and common sense... and logic.

My biggest problem was that all these old hippy folk (original 60's generation) were slobbing around doing absolutely nothing on the mountainside but disscussing endlessly with each other about how the government of the time was bad, and the system of society at the time was wrong and useless - However, come the 3rd of each month they were more than happy to rush down the mountain into the town so that they could collect their unemployment cheque which was provided to them by that particular governements policies on unemployment, and paid for by people who were participating in that "wrong and useless" system of society. It was just silly.

I'm with Icewolf and The Mighty Midget on this one.

Oddly enough, I still have that damnable tin whistle tucked away in a cupboard somewhere...

EDIT That's true Nace, there is nothing at all wrong with wanting Peace and Free Love, but I just think that the Hippy movement didn't have a profound impact on peace in the long run, and the consequences of Free Love were morbidly disasterous.

I agree as well, Nace.
The music was good from those times and the kids hadn't have to to the same job their father did and so on. Art and philosophy were getting forward and more important. This is good.

But in the end they were far too easygoing to reach a certain goal.
They were too stoned to give good performances in whatever.
And they were too spineless to give effort and sedulity. "Hey, Dude... This is too much pressure for me..."

What's with hippies and twigs for food, I wonder. I mean, having a diet consisting solely on twigs, roots, leaves, bark and mud. What are they? Some frickin Yodas? I could concider a daytrip to one of them camps, don't know why though, if there was at least a hot dog stand there. I've been playing with my band at some nasty pc venues, and all they had to offer the hungry, hung-over band that hadn't had a minute's sleep in 24 hours, would be some bleak, bland and boring bean bonanza. I want steak, goddamnit LOL

I wasn't aware I had to stick to any one sect which strips me from my freedom, I thought I was free to choose what to do at any time, even entering a commune --I won't. You see, I'll do as if I hadn't learned this and I'll continue to do what I wish at every time, and see if I can get away with it. Wish me luck! [/RANT over and out]

Music and ideology are two different things. I'm not saying they don't get related, but if I had to adhere to the ideas of every musician I like... Some of them tend to enjoy pretty stupid ones, you know.

For some reason you just reminded me of what I read in the news this morning - The present "temporary" military government (that recently kicked out the Prime Minister in a coup supported by the King) is going to hold a referendum on whether Thailand will continue as a democracy - It made me really cranky

Dammned military proto-dictatorships. Yuck.

Heh i think plants have feelings too. they are living beings. and shouldn't be tortured, mutilated or harmed in any way. i mean people COOK them for god's sake. alive!!!!

On the other hand animals are evil. they bite you, they want to eat you etc. so it's good to eat animals but eating plants is just a barbaric act. how can day do this to those poor harmless potatoes!!!! they mash them!!!

He, he, he

That is so incredibly true. If I was taking everything these bands told me to do at face value, I'd be in one hell of a mess. Mixing music and ideology proved itself to be disasterous to music the 40's as far as I'm concerned. 60 years later a lot of people still have problems with this Wagner chap. Ok, so it was a bloated brick-head that put the ideology in there for him, but still: Music and ideology should be separated at all costs.
I still listen to bands like The Exploited, but their lyrics are just downright moronic. Give me mindless fun rock'n'roll any day, but spare me these preachers and missionaries. Even if I would agree, I resent being told what to think.

And UBCD: There are more than two camps out there, you know. One of them is your own.
