Try changing the keys assigned to the gas and turning. Different keyboards have different combinations of keys that don't work at once.

There are several. You have a choice of tutorials in the "Tutorials" subforum, plus two sticky posts on this main board, plus all those frontend programs for DOSBox.

It's called DOSBox, not MSDOS Box. Games for (MS-)DOS are best run with it--games for Windows not (in principle).

Yes and yes, because they were made for DOS. At least for Doom there are also many Windows ports, including an old one from Microsoft.

Thanks. I'll check them out. Also, I downloaded "Car Builder" and every time I try to save something, it says "Disk Full". Am I unable to save stuff using DOSbox?

Yes :-) But in case of these problems, add this parameter to the mount command:

mount C C:\Oldgames -freesize 100

for example to indicate that your virtual C drive in DOSBox should report having 100 MB free. Most games don't check for available space beforehand and they do fine. In case they do you have to do this. It may be a good thing to include it in your automatic mount when you have one.

That really depend on the game. Often it's a reaction to not finding a file that may be missing. In other cases very old games didn't fit in one disk and so were designed to deal with this, but when you mount a folder on your modern hard disk that includes all files at once, sometimes it's enough just to press the key, as if you had switched disks in the same drive, and the game will look again and find the file that was supposed to be on another physical disk.

I DO have another set of problems I've been running into. Now, have some patience with me since it's been about ten years since I've fired up this game, and at the time, there was no real way to go multiplayer (well, there probably was, but nobody told me.)

I'm trying to play Duke Nukem 3D as a multiplayer game between my to computers. My desktop is a Dell with Windows XP and my laptop is an HP with Windows 7. I have ATT UVerse, so I have the two computers wired to the router with ethernet cables. I tried connecting the two computers directly to each other. On the back of the desktop, there's a serial connect (multiple pins with the screws on each side, I assume thats what you call a serial cable) that is light blue in color and the icon above where it plugs into (right above the printer cable of the same type of cable) is "IOIIOI" but flipped on it's side. There's a cable that comes out of there, but the other end is an ethernet cable (I assume that's what you call it, it's like the male end of a phone jack but bigger). So, I even tried connecting that to my laptop's port. Same results, no connection.

I set the desktop as a "host" and typed "serial1=nullmodem port: 12345" and set ipx=true.

Then on the "slave" computer or "guest" (I guess Guest would be a better term, I'm thinking it terms of hydraulics. ) I typed "serial1=nullmodem server: ***:***:**:*** port 12345. (I actually typed in the numbers for my IP address (I googled "What's my IP Address") instead of the asterisks).

I started dosbox on the host computer and in the C:\ (since I have it MOUNT automatically), I put in "ipxnet startserver 12345" and hit enter. it says

"IPX tunneling utility for DOSBOX

IPX tunneling server started"

On the guest computer, after I fire up dosbox and after it mounts itself to c:\ I type

"ipxnet connect ***:***:**:*** 12345" and it replies

"IPX tunneling utility for DosBox

IPX Tunneling failed to connect" somethingerother... Either way, it said it isn't connected.

What am I doing wrong? Is connecting the two computers through ethernet cables even a viable option? what about through the ATT router?

Help me out. My ultimate goal is to paly Duke Nukem 3D or Doom, Doom II, whatever between two different computers in the same room.

Ok, I downloaded Eduke32. IT's pretty cool, but how can I play against somebody sitting right next to me?

Also, I've been trying to get the original Grand Theft Auto to hook up between the computers. Is there a difference between a serial cable and an ethernet cable? I thought I got close with using an ethernet cable from one computer to the other and setting up a modem game, but the guest computer wants me to dial a specific number. Should I just get a serial cable (the one that looks like a printer cable) and hook the computers up to each other and hope that works?
