![]() I remember when I was a kid, how I used to play both games (first PoP1, then PoP2), and how I learned to beat them, level by level.
Somehow I felt that PoP2 was so much better than the first. In fact, PoP2 is what I'd call a perfect game - great graphics, music, atmosphere, nice cutscenes, and above all - terrific gameplay. Yes, very hard at times, but somehow the challenges appealed to me. Maybe it's because with PoP1 I had seen friends play and complete it before I started playing on my own, so it wasn't all my achievements. With PoP2 I did all by myself, with no one to help me, and that probably added to the fun factor. But it's more than that - PoP2 had something that PoP1 didn't have - variety. In PoP1 you have 12 levels, all of which look just like the other (except different color schemes for dungeon and palace), the enemies are all the same (except a few special guards which are still just guards with swords, only they're better at it). The traps are also few - once you've seen the blades in level 3, you've seen it all. Only the shadow (reflection) and the invisible road in the last level add some variety. PoP2, on the other hand plays across three different areas, each with its own traps and enemies, tricks, secrets and magical objects, and that's before you get to the final puzzle with Jaffar. Not to mention that the game looks colorful and much more alive (you gotta give credit to the technical aspects of the game too). So all things accounted for, I stand by my words - PoP2 is better than the first in every way, and in fact I consider it one of the best games ever made. |

![]() Indeed PoP II is better then it's predecessor in many respects, and in general better then it for sure;
however I found the new graphics to have it's disadvantages too, like less smooth animations for example. Personally I thought the combat in PoP I more fun too, but that's very argueable. I found PoP II slow to react at times... And, for a plus: Spoken, spoken

![]() Both POP 1 and POP 2 have their own charms and good points I think, POP 1 has a direct and pure feeling, one of the purest of all the games of its' genre I feel, you have great control and therefore experience with the main figure, and can experience the same direct needs to achieve in the face of the dangers and challenges as in real life....the colors are limited, but overall I think it is really a fine game within the tme and as a classic. POP 2 has a lot more going on, great cut scenes, story line is expanded, and sympathetic, and the special effects are amazing for the tme of its design, the traps and monsters are hard, indeed especially racing the clock. I was frustrated also by the heads and the snakes, and the temple stages with those nasty bird men was hard as well. The last fantasy stage is quite amazing in its own way, way out there in terms of visuals. The newer versions of the game leave me cold, they are too much like all the modern slick shoot em ups, too violent and too fast for enjoyment and savoring the experience. POP live for ever! |

![]() To those who are frustrated with snakes - you do know that there isn't a single spot in PoP2 where you have to battle a snake face to face?

![]() :Titan:
I found it was essential to attack the snakes before they get into their final hunch just before they bite the Prince, the Prince can actually strike with his sword quite a bit beyond his usual reach when he is hitting snakes, must be some adjustment in the code for just this case. They aren't as bad as they seem after the intial disgust with them. that is an interesting point, they mostly sneak up from behind indeed |

![]() I found a jolly effective tactic for killing the snakes. If you could find a safe way to do it, you can jump over the snakes. They don't turn and face you, but keep crawling, so slash them from behind without risk to your person!
The heads are annoying, yes! :ranting: However, after bit of practice, I did manage to master them. They're a breeze, really, once you find Father's Sword! Nifty blade! :Titan: You can also splatter them by pushing them back into a wall or dropping loose slabs on them, but these methods rely on luck and good management. |

![]() Yes the father's sword is longer and better, the behind approach for snakes is better, they are slipery critters until one gets the knack. the heads i found if you wait until just before they strike, that is the best time to hit them, if you try to hit them before that they sort of bob our of the way and then come back at you on the downswipe.... cheers |

![]() Prince of Persia 2 and 1 are classics indeed in that they combine challenging game play, controls, etc, with a good story line....and mystery as you progress through the levels. The later levels in Prince 2 are quite challenging indeed I have not tried the newer releases of the Prince series, but think it sounds like they have become like many other simplisitc shoot em up (in this case stab them up, etc) moronic violence treks. The older games are the best. |

![]() Back in 1998 I ordered Prince of Persia 1 and 2 in a bundled CD-ROM, directly from Broderbund (I was in US at that time, so I was able to order it online, something that I am no longer able to do so now). Then I also purchased Prince of Persia 3D (sadly the CD-ROM is now damaged). I love all three games. Unfortunately I have not been able to play the newer Prince of Persia games, namely Sands of Time and Warrior Within (all my PCs are unable to play them, poor me, well I am saving money to buy a new one hopefully by end of this year).
I played Prince of Persia 1 back in 1991 or 1992 (or 1993, can't remember the precise time), and Prince of Persia 2 a few years later. Too bad Prince of Persia 1 & 2 on this site are now ESA protected. I haven't played them for several years now, but they are two among the best (action?) games I have ever played. Reading these threads does bring a nostalgic smile |

![]() Tell me one thing guys! Ok the games are ESA protected, so that means I can't give them to anyone those games by email attachments? Would it be called piracy? I want more information on this ESA protection. Tell me where is in this site.
I love Prince of Persia 1 and 2. I have prince of persia 3d also, but never played beyong the second stage. I was in last stage of Prince of Persia 2, so I will go and end it now. Thanx
